Hi everyone,
A highlight this month has been a kind invitation from Michael Down, at Uggaton Farm, to see two barn owl chicks. Ray and I climbed up the ladder (not at the same time!), and there they were—two white bundles of fluff, but obviously growing quickly. Quite an experience for us both, and many thanks to Michael.
Arriving home late, one cool, rainy night, what do you think met us at our front door? There, sheltering from the elements, curled up in a ball, was large hedgehog. On seeing us, he (she?) slid away behind some flower pots, and was nowhere to be seen in the morning. In our garden, the highlight has been a green woodpecker, passing through. It only put in one appearance, unfortunately. Lots of young finches, tits and sparrows too. It has been quite a good year for butterflies—many red admirals, peacocks, and a few commas and painted ladies. Better than last year, which was poor. The red kites have not returned, but we’re hoping!
