Churchmouse – December

1 December 2016 By Sue

churchDear Friends

We mice are very excited as Christmas is coming. Oh we love Christmas especially when there is a Carol Service. We love the singing but we also have great fun clearing up all the crumbs from the mince pies. In fact last year I ate so many it gave me tummy ache. Mum had told me not to but I thought they were so good I couldn’t stop.

Last year we heard there were carol singers in the village, going from house to house, so this year we thought we’d get some of our friends and make a mouse choir and go and visit all our mice families and sing outside their nests. We heard that sometimes the carol singers get goodies to eat and drink so I hope our mice families will do the same. We are also looking forward to having the Crib put up as we like to see the figures in the stable around baby Jesus but I’ll let you into a secret – shh, don’t tell Rev Cate – sometimes we creep into the stable and keep warm in the straw. We know everyone is welcome to come to see Jesus so we don’t think he would mind.

We are looking forward to the school carol service, it’s such fun watching the children sing their favourite carols, they sing so well. We’re wondering if it is going to snow this year, we enjoy it when there’s snow and like to play snowballs but we don’t like it when it’s very cold as our little feet get frozen and there’s no food to eat, that’s why Mum and Dad are busy stocking up on anything they can find. We’ve already gathered in nuts and hay and our nests are well lined with sweet smelling dried flowers.

Did you know we also decorate our nests with the little pieces of tinsel that drop on the floor when you are decorating  the church? We don’t bother with a Christmas tree as we enjoy the one in church and play up and down the branches when no-one is looking, even swinging on the baubles! Well, we must dash as Mum is calling us for tea.

Love and squeaks, Parchie and Parchina
