As I type I’m looking out at the still highly illegal cricket field, brimming with ewes and lambs as they seem to think its breakfast time. You might at this point be thinking something along the lines of “why on earth doesn’t the old boy stop banging on about planning permission?” The answer is simple, by the beginning of last summer we had reached a position with EDDC whereby they were insistent that to play cricket legally in the field we needed a “Mixed Social and Sporting Use” Permission. By the end of the summer, in order to satisfy the …

A New Season at Tuck Mill
Cricket Force Day 2019
We will be holding Cricket Force Day on:
Sunday 14th April at 10am
The more that turn up to help the quicker the job will get done so we’d be very grateful of whatever time you can offer, please let know if you can make it and we can plan jobs accordingly.
We are still no further on with the planning permission, despite having put all the clubs savings into surveys and risk assessments. One day we might hear something.
With club funds down to zero and it being impossible to prepare the field without a roller, Jon has bought a ride on …

End of Year Report from the Millers
2018 was a year of good progress for Tale Millers CC, both on and off the field. It’s easy to forget that this was just the fifth season for our fledgling club and, despite losing a couple of games to the weather in this year’s non existent spring and another during England’s World Cup run, we still managed to squeeze in 23 games, 13 of which were victories, 2 ties (!)and 8 defeats. Our focus continues to be on playing friendly, sociable cricket for mixed ages and abilities and thanks to Ed East, who turns out the finest after match meals in …

TMCVC Latest
As the hot weather has continued, interspersed with the odd shower, the pitch , which still looks remarkably green, has now dried out sufficiently in some parts for a hand to fit in its cracks ! Sadly our roller has died so generally the surface isn’t quite at the standard we’d like but most seem to appreciate the need to bowl with caution.
The month has seen three wins on the trot over Plymtree, Broadhembury Lions and Nynehead, followed by defeat to a very strong Clyst Hydon team and a Tie with the boys from The Talaton Inn. At Plymtree, The …

TMCC News – Late July
Afternoon All
What a cracking turn out yesterday to watch the Mighty Millers gain revenge for recent defeats to the Lions of Broadhembury !
Thanks especially to all those who either partook or supported the “River Run” in aid of DEMENTIA , over £170 was raised and the adult winner was Ben Peters in a time of just over 1 min 30S, the Youths winner was William from Tale in a very creditable time just over two minutes. Well done to both of you, also to Jonathan Hill for spending more on entry fees than he did in the bar 😊 Slowest time of the day …

TMCC News – July
Whilst starting at the finish doesn’t always seem logical, the Tale this month centres on two long standing local postmen, our very own Marty, to whom we said farewell after 33 years of going on about Burnley. (In another 33 years, will we even have a postie to go on about anything?) The times they are a changing.
The second postie worthy of special mention is West Hill’s very own long standing Royal Mail Rep, Rick Rugg, who on 10 June skippered his Post Office XI in the annual game with The Millers. He skippered for only about 8 overs before …

TMCC News – June
Greetings from the SUNNY Tale Millers Cricket ground, never thought I’d be saying that ever again just a few weeks ago! Fittingly the season started on a damp chilly evening with a home game against the Broadclyst Pins. Due to the erratic nature of our scoring, I’m not completely convinced by the accuracy of my report but the Oppo batted first and posted a strong 112-8 with wickets for Steve Clegg, Jason Wood, and Neil Chambers. Will Wood will no doubt correct me if he feels hard done by. In response, we fell just short as the night drew in …

TMCC Update – End of May
Not looking too good for The Chiefs just at the minute, but you never know!**
We had two games this week, firstly trundling up the M5 to Nynehead on Tuesday evening, to record our third win on the bounce! The Nyneheaders batted first and on a balmy evening started brightly but faded to end on 92-9 and in response the Millers reached 93-6 in the fifteenth over. Good to see club captain Si Kittow back on the pitch for the first time this season, he’s reached that age where injuries kick in unfortunately 😊
Nynehead 92-9 (J Carden 2-4, M Hammett …
