TVCT launch their new theatre project in Payhembury Hall

10.00am on Sunday April 14th

John Somers will explain the project’s aims and how its development will involve a wide range of skills and people of all ages. Theatre director and writer, Nick Stimson (the community play he wrote and directed recently packed them in at the Drum Theatre, Plymouth) will then lead an exploratory workshop until 4.00pm. No experience necessary and no obligation to stay with the project ….. but we hope you will find TVCT’s unique ways of working of interest. If you liked Hollyhayes, Foresight and Leyhill, please come along on April 14th.

More information from TVCT’s Artistic Director, John Somers.

Latest News :

A slight change of plan for the 14th April.  We will begin at 10.00 in the Six Bells pub (in the centre of Payhembury and a stone’s throw from the Hall) because an innocent mistake was made over the booking.  The Church had already bagged the Hall – usually until 12.00 noon, but they have been asked if they can vacate the Hall by 11.00am.  We’ll ask them to send up white smoke as soon as they finish.

The morning will begin with an explanation from me of how the whole project will work.  After discussion and questions Nick Stimson will take over.  As many of you know, Nick is very sympathetic to our work, has kicked off projects for us before and has come to see some of our productions.  He is a very successful professional theatre director and writer and we are lucky to have his services.  The workshop will run until 4.00pm so please bring your lunch and drinks with you.

Attending the first workshop does not lock you into the project and it will give you the flavour of the work.  Hopefully, people will take on scenes (short, so no huge job) to develop before the second workshop two weeks later.  More writing/try out the scenes workshop follow, together with others on visual images, directing and music (each led by experts) with the aim of developing the body of the work before the summer break.

This is an ideal project in which young people can become involved .  The whole thing is sectionalised and this means that there are no long, late-night rehearsals.  Like previous TVCT projects there are a great many manageable, creative tasks involved.  Given that we are also dealing with the 1940s it is an ideal project for oldies like me.  TVCT has the reputation of developing theatre skills to produce original work and involving anyone who wants to be a part of things.

See you on the 14th, 10.00am, Six Bells – park in the Hall car park or around the green

Just in case you haven’t got it, I am attaching the paper about this project which includes the dates/time schedule.  Happy to answer any queries – and if you no longer wish to be on this mailing list, please let me know.  A number of people have told me they will be there.  If you will be and you have told me yet, please send an email.

John Somers
