Payhembury Provisions News – December

25 November 2019 By Sue

Ding dong merrily on high and tidings of comfort and joy…….we have once again been filled with the Christmas spirit and are giving away our hot drinks from the middle of December right into the New Year, and if you’re lucky you’ll even get a free cookie to go with them. Of course we’d be very happy if, in return for your drink, you chose to make a donation to support village groups or maybe bought some tickets in our Christmas raffle; you might win the first prize of £50 to spend in the shop and all the profits from the raffle will go to the village.

While you’re in the shop with your free drink you’ll see we have packed the shelves with Christmas goodies including our new line of Cartwright and Butler biscuits, maple and pecan dark chocolate digestive anyone? Some are in stylish tins which would make lovely presents, and some are in packets that are great to have in the cupboard in case of unexpected visitors, or maybe as
your secret stash for an antidote to Christmas stress. We have plenty of mince pies from the local bakery, the Crusty Cob, and will have a good selection of local cheeses and chutneys and the crackers (and wine!) to go with them.

Ordering of turkeys and geese is well under way, you will need to complete the form in the shop by 14th December to secure your free range bird from Orchard Farm near Crediton; remember this year you can order turkey crowns and breast joints as well as whole birds. You can also order meat from K and M butchers in Ottery via the shop, and pies and quiches from the Somerset company Jon Thorners, including their popular vegan and vegetarian versions. There’s sure to be something for everyone in the shop.

We’d like to wish you all a very merry Christmas!

Mary Whiting
