Payhembury Provisions News – June 2022

28 May 2022 By Sue

By the time you read this we will all have had our volunteers’ supper cooked by Ed East with tables waited on by committee members, bar run by committee members, tables arranged by committee members, flowers arranged by a (recently stepped down) committee member, need I go on? We do this annually to go a little way to saying thank you to all our volunteers who do it all for the good of others, hence our name Your Community Shop. We all pull together and it runs pretty smoothly. What an asset to the village it is and talking of assets does having a shop affect house prices? The generally held view amongst estate agents is that around a 5% premium is generated by having a village shop. Always good to know.

We have been putting together job descriptions for all the tasks that make the shop run smoothly so that any future gaps that need filling can be done swiftly and efficiently. Which made me wonder if readers knew what the committee members’ jobs are, here’s a brief run down of main responsibilities;

David Chair – Financial control, buyer team leader
Tim Vice chair – Bank payments, emergency closing, design
Roy Secretary – Minute taker, many mornings in the shop, perishables buyer
Anne Volunteer co-ordinator, Sunday team
Roz Raffle, Facebook page & Blue board jockey, regular Sunday morning team
Pat Wholesale supplier orders, stock checking, stock filling, days in the shop
Dawn Wholesale supplier orders, stock checking, stock filling, days in the shop
Toni Meats and other groceries buyer, days in the shop

There are other key players like John, Clive, Sue and Richard who have admin and buying tasks too.

With it being June a fair few are away on holiday but the shop carries on. Don’t forget to come and get some ice creams and marvel (not powdered milk) at the well oiled machine that is Payhembury Provisions.
