Payhembury Spring Bulb & Flower Show
Spring Bulb and Flower Show – 2021
After having to cancel this year’s show, we are hoping that by next year things may be different. So we have provisionally booked the village hall for: Saturday 20th March 2021 So please make a note in your diary. As we are unsure, we haven’t changed the schedules from last year, so if you have one the classes all remain the same. Obviously, if we can put on the show the dates written in there will change and I will let you know the changes in due course. In the meantime, don’t forget to put away your preserves just in […]

Despite the inclement weather being against us, I’m sure you’ll agree the hall looked a picture on the day of the show. It was great to see so many bulbs and flowers which made it spring-like even though the day was freezing, and it kept trying to snow. On behalf of the committee I would like to give thanks and acknowledge those that helped make the show the success that it was. Thank you to: • Mo for the beautiful and enormous fruit basket donated for the raffle. • Joan and Clare for stewarding and also Joan for running […]

By the time you’re reading this, the schedules for the 2018 Bulb Show will be available in the village shop. I know next March seems like a long way off but if you get one now, you can plan and put away your preserves for next year. So far, I’ve made apple chutney and plum jam. It’s the first time I’ve made this jam with plums from our garden, although it didn’t set as much as I’d hoped. However, my son who is a chef in London, said that’s the way the French prefer their jam and so does he, […]

The hall looked beautiful on show day thanks to the concerted efforts of all those who displayed exhibits, and it smelled pretty good too. Thank you to all those who entered – without you there would be no show, and it proved yet again that there are a lot of talented Payhembrians out there. I would like to thank the committee first and foremost; for some it was their first show and everyone rose to the challenge and helped make sure everything ran smoothly. Also to Jo Vincent, Joan Jarvis, Julie Moore, Pat Holdaway and all the committee children who helped in one way or another. […]

It was a lovely show this year, and the hall looked fabulous as ever with the golden daffodils and all the tasty food. It is obvious that there are a lot of talented people in Payhembury when you walk around admiring the exhibits. Unfortunately there were fewer entries than last year and less people in attendance. This could be due to a number of contributory factors, such as the fact that it was Mothering Sunday the following day and people were away, there was a craft fair in Broadhembury at the same time and one of the reasons was definitely […]

Our 50th show has received lots of positive comments, about the impact on all the senses, as people entered the hall, I think everyone will agree that it looked a picture. In a few weeks we will be having a meeting to plan and discuss next year’s show.
