Tale Millers CC – Latest News

28 July 2020 By Sue

At long last Boris allowed us out to play in July! After a successful fully risk assessed Club Night to get the season up and running, we then entertained near neighbours Plymtree and came out on top with the Millers scoring 134-6 and Plymtree replying with 97 All Out. Four of our batters reached the magic retirement score of 25, Shane Tout, Ben Peters, Mark Hammett (new eye) and Si Kittow (new knee) whilst wickets were taken by Shane Tout, Will Wood, and Oli Kittow amongst others.

We then moved onto a home game with our friends from up Tale Lane, Clyst Hydon CC, with the Clyst boys proving just a bit too strong for us. Clyst Hydon 128-8 (Richards 25 Not, S Kittow 3-9) Millers 91-9 (S Kittow 20, J Carden 14 Not).

On a personal level, it’s been particularly good to see the Skipper, Si Kittow, looking more like his old self after two years of waiting for a knee op and his infectious enthusiasm is great to see. Similarly, Mark Hammett had eye issues last summer and at times became a little frustrated with his inability to see the ball (every club needs a bat thrower in the changing room!) so great to see Mark back in the runs early in this shortened season.

This week we have a first when we play away to Lympstone at The Archery Club – lets hope we don’t get taken down by any budding Robin Hoods !

The revised 2020 fixtures are in the parish paper and on the village website, do pop down and cheer us on or just have a beer.

See you on the pitch,

Jon
