They Dream of Home – Payhembury Roads

30 August 2015 By Sue

British troops in silhouette march towards trenches near Ypres at the Western Front during the First World War. In the first Battle of Ypres, October 1914, German forces failed to reach the English Channel ports but the Allied counter-attack failed. Poison gas was employed for the first time in April 1915 by the German army at the second Battle of Ypres. The final Battle of Ypres between July-November 1917 results in Allied forces capturing Passchendaele. Ypres, Belgium [?]

They Dream of Home is a promenade production which takes place at a number of village sites, thus requiring the audience to walk between scenes. I need to ask for people’s co-operation in parking elsewhere as the sight of modern cars will undermine our attempt to transport people’s imagination back to the early 1900s. Parked cars will make the scenes on the Green and at the Memorial impossible to stage. Also, if driving when the audience is transferring from the site of one scene to another, please tolerate a short wait whilst the audience moves on the road.  x

Parking spaces for the audience (kindly agreed by Rob Leach) will be in the field next to Culver House for traffic approaching from Feniton, and in Slade Yard for cars coming from Luton and Broadhembury. So that the sight of cars is kept to a minimum, residents could also park there. Stewards will be on duty in reflective jackets to direct traffic and advise. Please contact me if you have any thoughts on this issue and/or are prepared to help beforehand and on the performance nights. It would help if motorists from other parishes could avoid driving through Payhembury.

I apologise for this potential inconvenience and am grateful for your co-operation.
