Christmas. Yes I said it. I know it’s only November but it starts now really doesn’t it? How do I know it’s nearly Christmas? Well we have Cadbury’s Cream Eggs arriving shortly (not really, you have to wait till next year for those) I know because we talked about turkeys and geese at the committee meeting and David winced when we mentioned decorations.
If you are one of those efficient folk who have their cards done, signed and in their envelopes by bonfire night (hey we have ingredients for Yorkshire Parkin by the way) and your gifts drawer …

Payhembury Provisions News – October 2022
Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
I don’t know about you, but I love Autumn. The richness of the colours, the crisp misty mornings, the beautiful starlit skies. The days are beginning to draw in and I’m sure, like me, you have noticed the temperature dropping in the mornings and evenings. Judging by …

Payhembury Provisions News – September 2022
Thank you Tim for last month’s amazing cartoon – were you able to identify everyone? Unfortunately he has passed the baton to me for this month – what an act to follow!!
You may notice some new brands appearing on the shelves lately – from fruit juice to oat milk; biscuits to naan breads and toilet rolls to baby wipes, we are having to search widely to source products that are no longer available from our usual wholesalers. This problem isn’t specific to Payhembury Provisions and we are really committed to getting the best products for the …

A Plea from Payhembury Provisions
Our Shop
We are extraordinarily lucky to have such a fabulous band of volunteers for our shop, including a very dedicated hard core of people who give their time very generously. However, we urgently need more volunteers, including several to learn the opening procedure for the 7.30-10.00 am shifts, and we have lost our volunteers for the 6-7 and close shift on Monday evenings. We will also soon lose part of our Sunday morning Early Bird team (7.30 - 10.00) which involves sorting out the newspapers and baking. This particular shift is shared …

Payhembury Provisions News – June 2022
By the time you read this we will all have had our volunteers’ supper cooked by Ed East with tables waited on by committee members, bar run by committee members, tables arranged by committee members, flowers arranged by a (recently stepped down) committee member, need I go on? We do this annually to go a little way to saying thank you to all our volunteers who do it all for the good of others, hence our name Your Community Shop. We all pull together and it runs pretty smoothly. What an asset to the village it is and talking of assets does …

Payhembury Provisions News – May 2022
When I moved to Devon I asked a joiner when he could replace a window on our house and he said May. May came and went and as the following May loomed I asked if now was the May he was thinking of. “Oh I didn’t say May” he replied with a cheeky grin “I said may-be”. The window got changed that May.
So here in Payhembury we have moved into the early summer and there is change about. Graham Smith, our stalwart IT man has moved away and Richard McCarthy has stepped into his boots, for which we thank him. Rich and Nan have also moved away and left …

Payhembury Provisions News – March 2022
We are really thrilled to be able to share with you the excellent news that we are now the very proud owners of the shop on a 299 year lease, securing the future of Payhembury Provisions for the village. It has taken a long time, many meetings, and a lot of hard work, and we have David and Tim from our committee, and Robert Leach to thank for ensuring our thriving shop will be able to continue serving the village for many years. It is very exciting.
‘Spring has sprung’ at Payhembury Provisions - the daffodils are here once again! You can find …
