Churchmouse – March

7 March 2015 By Sue

Hi friends, hope you are all well and enjoyed your half term holiday. We mice were a bit disappointed as there hasn’t been any snow; we love to go out jumping in the snow piles and burying each other in the drifts. Sometimes it’s so cold that icicles form in our fur and then when we go inside and into our nests Mum moans that we make too much mess and get everything wet, but it’s fun. Grandma and Grandpa mouse don’t like the cold; they say it gets into their paws and makes them ache. Grandma mouse has knitted them some lovely warm gloves, but they are so big they wouldn’t do for Parchina and me, we couldn’t get up to tricks and things.

We have been busy over the last few days, do you remember last time we were thinking about how we could serve people? We saw some of the young people form BBC (Biscuit and Bible Club) going around the village giving out cakes as a ‘random act of kindness’. “What a good idea!” we thought, not that people would want our tiny cakes or even a visit from us! We thought we could make some mice cakes and take them to our field mouse friends and neighbours. So with Mum and Dad’s help we made some little mice cakes. They are made from squashed berries, crumbs and seeds – yum yum. Parchina and I took them around to various mice families, they were so pleased and asked why we were doing it and we replied that there was no specific reason just that we wanted to be kind and offer them something. Everyone was delighted and even old grumpy Mr Old Fieldmouse, who lives in the top corner of the graveyard, he’s a bit scary, but even he was delighted to receive our little cakes and gave us a really big toothless grin. It made us think that perhaps he’s not really scary, just a bit lonely, so we’ll go and visit him again.

We have been storing up all sorts of crumbs, the soup lunches are great for us to gather bits and pieces after everyone has gone, they don’t leave us any soup though! So we can do more acts of kindness. When Easter comes there will be more celebrations too, so more food for us to gather and share.
Our promise for Lent is that we keep on finding more acts of random kindness to do each day so off we had better go and see what else we can do.

Squeaks to you all, Parchie and Parchina.
