Churchmouse – October

2 October 2015 By Sue

churchHello friends

We hope that you enjoyed your summer holiday. What a shame it was so wet. Parchina and I don’t think we took our  wellies off at all for a couple of weeks. We even had difficulty in gathering food, as there were not many services in  church for us to gather up the crumbs, so we were very pleased when school returned and everyone was back to  normal.

We were especially pleased when we had the celebration service at the beginning of September, there was sooo  much  cake and we were able to gather lots of food to store away. It was a very good job we did, because we have had  some visitors to stay. A family of field mice had their nest washed away in the heavy rain and when they gathered up  their bits and pieces of stored food a large rat came along and gobbled it all up. It continued to rain and they became  very wet and hungry. Mum and Dad saw them shivering under the hedge in the graveyard and so invited them into  the church.

We all helped dry them off and made room for them in our special nest (I’m keeping where that is a secret) so they could rest and we shared our stored food with them. They were so pleased to have somewhere safe to stay. They will  be staying with us until all the harvesting is over and the big tractors have gone and there are no more rats about  (cats get busy) and they can rebuild their nest again and get some stores of food.

Until then we are sharing what we have got and helping them get fit and healthy again. Mum and Dad told us that  was the kind and caring thing to do and we church mice listen to all those stories from the Bible where Jesus tells us  that we should help people. We have been learning a lot from our field mouse friends so it has been fun.

Bye for now, Parchie, Parchina and Friends
