Churchmouse – September

30 August 2015 By Sue

xxDear Chums,

It’s been a rather quiet month as you all seem to have been away on holiday. Parchina and I have been a bit lonely, no singing from the children, no weddings. We cheered up at the end of the month with two lovely Christenings of little Ashton and Alexander, that was great and we felt very happy when we heard all the lovely singing. So Parchina and I have been doing a lot of reading that is when we haven’t been out in the fields with our field mice friends helping them bring in the harvest straw. It’s so difficult having to run behind the combine harvesters and not be knocked over by heavy machinery. Mum is always warning us to be careful and to use our sharp ears to listen out for the rumbles.

We have found plenty of time for reading early in the day. We have discovered a good range of Mice Mystery Stories and Mice Detective Stories which I really love. My favourite is one about a country mouse detective who has to investigate the stealing of nuts from a hidden winter store. No one knew where it was except MR Grey the owner but somehow one by one the stored nuts disappeared. It was very thrilling and the culprit was caught in the end, it was a rogue dormouse called Dorry, oh I shouldn’t have told you the end of the story in case you read it. Well I was so excited by the story I couldn’t put the book down and Mum got cross with me as she kept calling me for tea and I was lost in the thrill of the story. I think it’s good to really get into a story and think of yourself as one of the characters as long as it’s not a ghost story which Parchina seems to like.

Well I must go now there is a pile of lovely books in our nest waiting for me to read and I need to get through them before all the excitement of Harvest Festivals and the beginning of term starts.

See you soon, love Parchie and Parchina.
