Summary of Parish Council Survey

7 December 2012 By Sue

Additional Housing In Payhembury

Results from the Public Meetings:

Thank you to all those who attended the 2 public sessions the Parish Council staged to discuss the siting of additional housing in the village.

Payhembury is required by East Devon District Council to build a minimum of 5 new houses in the village before 2026. The public meetings were held to gauge the community’s opinion of where these houses should be situated. The potential sites are: 1) in the centre of the village opposite the Parish Hall (site ref: C021), and 2) along Barrow Road, on the right hand side on the edge of the village boundary (site ref: C130).

The results of the questionnaire are as follows:

 66% of parishioners indicated they would prefer site C021 in the village to be developed. 32% preferred site C130 out of the village. (2% were unclear with their response).

 71% of responses did not indicate a preference for where the development within either site should take place.

 The number of new houses required was a close call between no more than 5, and 6-10 houses.

 The majority of parishioners suggested the greatest need was for more family housing, with affordable housing coming in second.

 The main items required for any potential community levy fund included: more pavements throughout the village; street lighting and investment in pedestrian safety.

 Ideas for the strategic levy fund mainly requested improvement of roads and public transport

At the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday 14th November 2012, the Chair put the two sites to the Councillors vote. They were unanimous in their decision that site C021 be the preferred site for development, largely based on the views gathered from the public meetings.

Detailed information of the public meeting results can be seen on the Parish Council notice board, along with the minutes of the Parish Council meeting where the vote was taken.

The response forms and necessary completed forms will now be sent onto East Devon District Council to process.
