Payhembury Provisions News – January 2022

4 January 2022 By Sue

As some of you will know David, our chairman, took a tumble before Christmas in the line of duty – plugging in some Christmas lights above the chiller – and gave his head a whack, enough to put him in hospital for a week or so. He’s okay, but I’m sure you will all join me in wishing him a speedy full recovery (post Christmas update he’s home and recovering well).

The shop has functioned without him at there helm but only because we are entirely volunteer run and therefore there are systems in place to cover holidays and accidents such as this. We know the shop is vulnerable to a loss of volunteers, Covid shielding and this a case in point. We had a fantastic response to the Covid crisis and I urge you to look at your diary and commitments and see if you can offer even an hour of your time to helping run the shop which is both handy and a massive community asset.

David has been leading the way for the purchase of a long lease on the shop and this may well have been finalised by the time you read this. The shop has been secured as an asset for Payhembury for at least the next 299 years thanks to parishioners using the shop and volunteers keeping the overheads low. We celebrated our tenth anniversary last year so now watch this space for the next chapter in the life of Payhembury Provisions. Are you part of it?
