It was a lovely show this year, and the hall looked fabulous as ever with the golden daffodils and all the tasty food. It is obvious that there are a lot of talented people in Payhembury when you walk around admiring the exhibits. Unfortunately there were fewer entries than last year and less people in attendance. This could be due to a number of contributory factors, such as the fact that it was Mothering Sunday the following day and people were away, there was a craft fair in Broadhembury at the same time and one of the reasons was definitely because Sylvia Evans didn’t enter this year as she sadly passed away. Sylvia was a stalwart supporter of the Bulb Show, not only a member of the committee but someone who entered so many classes. She was a fantastic cook as well as being gifted at flower arranging and it seems just about everything she put her hand to. We really missed her this year; however, we were fortunate that Allan, her husband and her two daughters came to the show and Allan opened the show with some lovely words which were very moving, and donated the cup that Sylvia had wanted to give before she died. I would like to thank the Evans family for being there.
There are so many other people to thank, as without them the Bulb Show just couldn’t happen. So, thank you to all the committee members, and thank you to Steve and Sandra Ford for donating and making all the refreshments, and to all the ladies in the kitchen who helped serve and wash up. To Louise Granger, who as well as entering loads of classes, looks after the judges and cooks a delicious meal for them. To Di Somers and Joy Morgan who spend hours behind the scenes and on the day ensuring everything runs smoothly. To Joan Jarvis who stays at the hall for the whole day helping out and looks after the raffle. To Julie Moore who does the chocolate raffle every year. Thank you to Ray and Jason for their muscle, and everyone else who moved tables and helped clear up. To Becky, Hazel and Janice for also making sure things ran without a hitch. To Mo Curran for the beautiful fruit basket she made, and everyone else who donated raffle prizes. Thank you to everyone who were stewards while the judging took place. Thank you to the judges who did a sterling job as always. I would also like to thank Pat Fowler for the loan of the beautiful homemade bunting, I think you’ll all agree it made the hall look better than ever. Finally thank you to everyone that entered and made the hall look so wonderful.
