Thank you to everyone who sent it their ingenious acrostic poem. Sue’s verse is particularly apposite given our approaching vote and Julie, as I notice buds bursting, heralds the approaching Spring. You still have time to squeeze in a blank verse poem before the (slightly extended) deadline of 6th May. Please see last April’s paper for details or email me (j.w.somers@exeter.ac.uk). If you have not had a go yet, please consider writing one this time. No new theme this month as we will take a poetry break over the summer. Thanks to Sue Derbyshire, the sets of published poems, plus a few for which there was not room, can be seen on the website at: http://www.payhembury.org.uk/payhembury-poetry-pot-haiku-poems/
In the EU will be good some say
No trouble with finance or money
Oh, it will be so good for us!
Really? Will it be that sunny?
Out will return our sovereignty they say
Under our own rules and laws
They go on and on – who is voting I say?
Sue Derbyshire
Everyone loves it,
A breath of Spring.
Sometimes still cold, but
Tulips, daffodils and primroses
Everywhere
Raise our spirits each year.

Happily
On the beach
Lazily
In the sun
Darting
Around rocks and pools
Yesterday
Summers were so simple
Pete Penly
Nestling birds in their hypnotic silence
Inky, indigo blackness
Graceful white owl soaring high
Hazy twilight’s sooty shadow
Twinkling pinpricks of glimmering light.

Tesco trolleys do exactly what they want
Even though we know where we should go
Seeing choice galore means that we really can’t
Choose, for the life of us; healthy or “so so”?
Oh DO keep straight you silly trolley!
Sue Derbyshire
Slumbering students
Called to break by the bell
Happily, they hurry
Out into the
Open air
Laughing freely, joyful.
Meg Somers (14)
Happens all the time
Only one person can stop it (your teacher)
Maybe, just maybe we won’t have it this week (pretty please)
Everyone’s involved although I wish I wasn’t
Was never a time when it wasn’t around (I wish there was)
One would rather be doing something useful like watching TV
Rocket science is less dull
Keeps driving me crazy
Amy Dennis Age:9
Cuddly, naughty, but oh so sweet!
Homes, lively and noisy
It has to be said, but
Love and warmth abound;
Dads and Mums
Read to them
Each evening;
Night comes, and it’s oh, so quiet!
Julie Moore
