Badminton Club

logo1When the new Parish Hall was built, the dimensions of the main Hall were designed to be able to take a badminton court, in terms of area and height. In 2015 the Parish Hall Committee took to lead to turn this vision into reality and polled Payhembury parishioners to see what the reaction would be to marking the Hall floor with a badminton court (there is currently no way of applying temporary court markings). The response was overwhelmingly positive.

Late in 2015 a feasibility study was conducted by Kevin Wooff and James Lusby to assess costs and risks along with the obvious benefit of having an all-weather sports facility in the village. In order to be able to keep a handle on security for the building, and to be able to have an online booking system, it was concluded that having a ‘club fee’ supplemented by a Pay As You Go’ fee, was the best way forward, initially as a pilot.

Badminton will have to fit in around existing standing bookings (such as the Short Mat Bowls club, school use, and cleaning times). Also, large events will take precedence over use of the Hall for Badminton.

Early in 2016 we will have the Hall floor marked – a subtle colour so that it does not detract too much from the look of the Hall. From that point forward any parishioners can join the Badminton Club and use the facility. If you want to join and have access to the Hall please let Kevin Wooff know.

Thanks all and we look forward to seeing good use of the Hall for this sociable and accessible sport,

Get ready to serve…

January 30th, 2017

Sunday February 5th 2pm to 4pm in the Parish Community Hall Come along and play badminton at the Parish Community Hall Sunday 5th Feb ! Last year badminton court markings were laid down in the Parish Community Hall, and high-quality net and posts were purchased. It’s now a fantastic facility which can be used by all. Badminton is a great game to get the blood up, and can be played by all ages, all abilities, unaffected by the light or the weather. It can be a game for two, or doubles for 4, and we hope to be able to […]
