HANDi – Paediatric Advice on Common Childhood Illnesses
Yellingham Farm – July
Despite all the anxieties of the past few months, the advice, the regulations, the locking down, the unlocking, life has become more hopeful and even the simple things in life have made us all happy again – yes, the long-awaited haircut!
Some more good news – Yellingham Farm Bed and Breakfast is OPEN. The decision was not taken lightly and after hours of reading advice from every Hospitality expert in the world as to what to do and what not to do (which changed hourly), we decided to open – in fact the truth of the matter is, the bank …

Paul’s Nature Notes July/August 2020
Late July can sometimes be a quiet time for birds but not this year – the garden echoed to the calls and tweets of countless fledglings. In fact some were a positive nuisance, as I had to constantly usher them out of the greenhouses. The worst offenders were the juvenile blackbirds - I have never seen so many and I am sure you will have noticed those mobs of juvenile sparrows, some over 30 strong, flying around all over the place, but there have been two real stars this year.
I have already told you about the first, a pair of Spotted …

Reverend David’s September Message
Winners and losers have emerged from the pandemic.
Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, is reported to have seen his financial worth balloon to an extraordinary £150 billion. Meanwhile others have tragically lost their jobs and now struggle to make ends meet. Thankfully finance is not life’s only measure. But the waves created by the pandemic have rocked most people’s boats.
As schools finally return fully in September, young people who were unable to sit public exams this summer have had a particularly torrid time. We’ve all witnessed the …

September News from TMCC
Such is the shortness of the 2020 season that, having used our allocated space in July to give an update on the revised fixture list, we now find ourselves in August with just two and a bit weeks of the season to go. Alas, t’will soon to be too dark for us to play in the evenings.
Our season began at The Mill with a local derby ( most of our games are) against the serfs and villains of Plymtree, mostly the latter really . The Millers batted first and the highlights were the return to health and runs for Mark Hammett and his new eyes and after …

Payhembury Provisions News – September
We have all been admiring the flowers by the Payhembury sign and along Church Lane recently as
well as the fields full of cheerful sunflowers at Rull and brilliant blue chicory flowers at the bottom of Poffitt Lane and it made us wonder if we could start selling cut flowers. Luckily for us we have found a grower and garden designer in Colestocks who we hope is going to provide us with beautiful fresh Devon garden flowers to sell in our shop, none of your long distance air-freighted flowers here!
Weekends are busy in the shop with lots of …

Allotments / Village Car Park / Football Pitch
The Leach family have very generously offered an area of approximately 2 acres of land down in The Meadows to be used for a village car park, allotments and a full size, flat!!! football pitch.
The Parish Council have checked with EDDC planning authority to see what their view would be regarding planning permission as there was no point pursuing this idea if EDDC felt there was no likelihood that planning permission would be granted. However, they have come back saying, in principle, planning permission could be granted.
Now that the Parish …

Road Closures Through Colestocks
Update on proposed 6-week road closure in Colestocks:
The proposed 6-wk road closure in Colestocks to enable Western Power to connect a property has obviously been delayed by the current pandemic. In mid-June I spoke to Western Power who confirmed that they are still investigating alternative ways to avoid closing the road for such a long time. A solution had not been agreed at that time and the 6-wk road closure has not been ruled out, although it is a last resort. Hopefully a better solution will be agreed soon. Once a decision has been …
