It is with great sadness that we learnt that our stalwart Umpire and one of our “originals” , John Somers, had passed away peacefully. Its not my place to offer an obituary but on behalf of the club I hope I can offer an affectionate reflection on John’s contribution to our little club. As an academic and playwright associated with the University of Exeter, John spent many years enjoying his cricket with their staff “Erratics” team and it was our good fortune that our fledgling club needed an umpire just as his playing career wound down. …

It seems mighty strange having just walked across a bog purporting to be a cricket field but in theory we should be limbering up for our first game of the season later in April away at Clyst Hydon, not our longest journey but Tale Lane isn’t always the easiest route to traverse!
Our First home game is in the Voneus Village Knock Out Cup, our only attempt at 40 Over cricket this summer, at home to the Cornish giants from Roche. Our approach could be likened to England's less successful attempts at Bazball but on the positive side we have …

Tale Millers Cricket Club
I know it really doesn’t seem like it but within two months of you picking up your Parish Paper we should be playing cricket – time will tell !
As of the start of this season the club will have a DEFIBRILLATOR up and running in the toilets beside the pitch . Clearly it makes sense that this should be accessible to local residents in Tale in an emergency and the club will be working towards that . The local charity that we have worked with on this project, JAYS AIM, will be providing a training session one evening in the Spring as part of …

Payhembury tennis club – 2024
Villagers and friends, we are about to ramp up efforts for the tennis season 2024 and could really do with some help!
Court tidy up: Saturday 9th March from 9am
If you could spare 30min to 2 hours and come armed with a yard brush wheel barrow or loppers, we plan to clear the moss and weeds around the court to make it playable once again for the season.
AGM: All welcome, Summerdale, Barrow road 8pm on Thursday 14th March
This year we will be losing Sue Holmes as a committee member and would really value some keen players or just …

Tale Millers Latest – May 2023
The optimism of February, when we were working the fields, led into a wet old march, leaving cricket clubs up and down the country battling the weather to be ready for the start of the cricket season.
Having decided that our home patch should be a field beside a river at the bottom of a valley (I appreciate it's not the biggest valley nor the biggest river) we are even further behind than most. Our ground prep evening was cancelled due to a flooded outfield and our first game at Clyst Hydon has fallen victim to the weather. Apparently you can …

TMCC – Played 21, Won 14, Lost 7
Once again, we have reached the conclusion of a hugely enjoyable summer of cricket and friendship. This year’s end of season celebration took place shortly after the passing of our wonderful Queen and before the cricket a minute’s silence was observed with a Toast to follow; what an extraordinary lady and a fine example of humanity for us to follow.
The Inter Club game that followed was huge fun, with JC and The Sunshine Band overcoming The Southern Cider Drinkers in an exciting 7 a side format, by 64 runs to 60. Highlight of the evening was …

Tale Millers Cricket Club – August 2022
The cricket field at Tuck Mill is almost looking excited today as the first rain its seen for a few weeks has fallen, albeit not the huge dolloping we’d like but beggars cant be choosers.
Fullsys Allstars strode confidently into town on 15th July and as it turned out, they were right to look so confident ! After the Millers had posted a below par 105-6 with Ralph Cook unbeaten on 30 and Mark Hammett 18, Fullsys unleashed a genuine Allstar in the shape of Exeter City FC manager Matt Taylor . Unfortunately for our own overseas superstar, Fred …
