Deck the halls, the festive season is upon us! We will have just had the spooks of Halloween and the gunpowder plot celebrations which they do in a very understated way in Ottery St Mary I always think. Well we here at Payhembury Provisions like to blow our trumpet and celebrate everything good about our shop and village. So once again you’ll be able to order a fine free range Turkey (may have been barn raised as I’m not up on the current poultry keeping laws) from us, the order form will be in the shop soon. We have a good range of Christmas …

Payhembury Provisions – Sept 2023
Our Annual Members Meeting will be held on Friday 20th October at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall. Please come along – Payhembury is ‘your’ shop – a community shop managed by members of the community for everyone in the community.
During the meeting, we are always pleased to be able to give grants to local organisations. This is money raised from our weekly raffle. Recipients to date have included Tea and Bingo group, the Church - to resource the children’s area, and towards repairs to the bells; the Flower and Bulb show, committee to support the …

Payhembury Provisions – June 2023
Summer is round the corner - temperatures are rising and days are drawing out with blue skies and
sunshine encouraging us outside into the garden, the surrounding countryside - where the wild flowers are just stunning at this time of year - and of course to the seaside. How lucky we are to live in such a beautiful area.
Payhembury Provisions is gearing up for the summer with everything you need to enjoy the outdoors. Our new ice-cream freezer is crammed full of delicious treats for everyone and there’s more in the main freezer with yummy …

Payhembury Provisions – July 2023
Things you can’t see; and top of the list are the new Photo Voltaic panels on the roof which were installed and commissioned last month by Dan. They must be positively pulsating with all the sunshine we have had and we can’t see all the lovely electricity they are producing either - I am writing this before I do my monthly meter reading (remember when a chap in a uniform came and did it for you?) so I can’t tell you by how much it has reduced our electricity bill, I hope significantly. It's good for our long term view for the shop and thinking …

We got a grant!
We applied for a grant and got it. It was awarded by the EDDC from their Community Building Fund to help us with the cost of buying and installing solar panels on the roof of the shop. So thank you EDDC, long may the sun shine!
The grant only covers a third of the cost but it is most welcome in these difficult trading times for us. The work, along with the new roof on the outside area of the shop as detailed in last month’s magazine will commence very shortly if it hasn’t already by the time you read this.
Last month our ice cream freezer …

Exciting projects planned for improving your local shop……..
In a few weeks time we plan to begin work on exciting and much needed improvements to the area outside the shop. We are having a new roof on the existing building and securing the area with rather lovely glass doors. The new room will still contain fruit and vegetables, but rather than them being stored in the chiller, they will be displayed in boxes. The shop and Studio will remain open while the work is going on, so temporarily we will be directing customers and all clients for the …

Payhembury Provisions News – March 2023
An extract from the minutes of the last committee meeting in January:
Margins – It was noted that at present we add a profit margin of 23% generally onto goods and DC [David Curran – Chair] asked if we need to increase it. The general feeling was that in the present climate we should try to maintain that figure for the time being, but to continue monitoring.
We are very mindful that we are a community shop and not a convenience store, and as such our priority is to the customers and not to the ‘bottom line’. The cost of living crisis affects …

Payhembury Provisions News – November 2022
Christmas. Yes I said it. I know it’s only November but it starts now really doesn’t it? How do I know it’s nearly Christmas? Well we have Cadbury’s Cream Eggs arriving shortly (not really, you have to wait till next year for those) I know because we talked about turkeys and geese at the committee meeting and David winced when we mentioned decorations.
If you are one of those efficient folk who have their cards done, signed and in their envelopes by bonfire night (hey we have ingredients for Yorkshire Parkin by the way) and your gifts drawer …
