Alan’s Nature Notes from December
Hello and a Merry Christmas to you all!
Lots of activity in the garden. On the feeders – lots of goldfinches (goldies), blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, coal tits (more of them this winter), greenfinches, chaffinches and our friend "Woody", the great spotted woodpecker, who visits us most days.
On my walks up the lane towards Willands Ash, I often see a sparrow hawk. He (she) sits on top of the posts, and is getting very bold, because she doesn't fly away until the last moment. The buzzards are also about – one hears them before …

Yellingham Farm Diary – December
Wow…… following on from my notes in November, the apple pressing was amazing. I contacted an apple pressing company from Newton Abbott, who duly arrived on the appointed day and the process began. We had collected kilos and kilos of apples in trays and then it was over to them.
First they washed them all, then they were put in batches through a large macerator and then layered in a large press, which was situated in the back of their van. In the first pressing they took away 125 litres, which is their capacity when mobile, which was returned …

Payhembury Church Bells
Our village bells need some repairs and so we've decided to hold a fair next July to raise some money. If anyone is having a New Year clear out could you keep us in mind, as we're trying to build up a stock of Tombola prizes and books.
Could any keen gardeners please raise a few extra plants for us, as we plan to have a plant stall too.
Thanks - Lin Horrocks
and the Payhembury ringers

A bag in the hand is worth two in the cupboard!
Now that people are having to pay for carrier bags in supermarkets and shops, we're finding that our village shop is running short.
Many people already bring a shopping bag with them, which really helps, but it is handy to be able to offer a bag when needed, so if you have any spare bags to hand into us we would be very grateful.
Thanks, Lin Horrocks …

Churchmouse – February
Hi friends,
We hope you have had a great Christmas. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed having our field mouse friends with us. They were amazed at the Christmas tree in church; they enjoyed playing in the tree and swinging from the branches. Mum was very worried we would break the baubles, but we were very careful. We made some great swings out of the tinsel!
We played some great family games as well and spent a lot of time dressing up as different people. Parchina was very cheeky and found a piece of white plastic and tied it around …
