A good number attended the October Tea and Bingo, with Vivian calling and Jan proving very lucky for herself and Vivian when doing both cards!
Marjorie brought a delightful chocolate fudge cake, which went down very well indeed, and Sue another of her “sticky” cakes – orange this time. It is always good to have a chat and catch up with everyone’s news over a cuppa and tasty cake.
Marjorie can’t make the November meeting, as she will be out celebrating her birthday – Happy Birthday to you Marjorie and enjoy your day out! Marian has kindly …

Tea and Bingo – November
November Message from Rev Steve Weston
This is the first letter I have the privilege to write as Team Rector of the Otter Vale Team after Cate’s
retirement. And, looking out of my window as I write, there are so many tasks in the garden on my “to-do” list as the seasons change from autumn to winter. I love the autumnal jobs – from tidying and bulb-planting to leaf-gathering, cutting back, composting and lighting bonfires.
The Bible seems to be full of gardening words – words like grow, prune, cut back, plant, dig, seed, branches, soil, manure, fertilise, burning dead wood, …

HOSTUK 2017
Hosting with HOSTUK 2017
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2
How true such advice can be. Hospitality is an equal partnership, the feel-good factor of offering it and the delight in receiving it.
HOST UK is a charity whose mission is to give a welcome to international students in British homes for friendship and cultural exchange. Whilst not a faith-based charity, it values the offers of hospitality that result from awareness-raising in Churches through …

FOPs Update – 13th October 2017
Friends of Payhembury School
Our aim is to support the school by raising money for the ‘extras’ which otherwise would not be provided, and through this enhancing our children’s experiences.
What does FOPS spend our hard-earned money on?
Parents, carers, local residents and businesses are always very generous helping FOPS raise money for the school. In the last academic year (September 2016 – July 2017), we gave over £900 to the school. The majority of this was towards trips and events outside of the classrooms although we also bought end …

Save A Life – Be Aware of our Defribillator
The defibrillator is now commissioned and ready to use. It is situated on the pillar of the Payhembury Provisions porch.
Please note the emergency phone is a small box just above the defib. All you do is press the button to be connected to the 999 operator and they will give you the code for the box. The purpose of this is to make sure the ambulance is called. Nearly forty people attended the Defibrillator Awareness evening in the hall given by Tina from Community Heartbeat. Everybody found it stimulating, non-threatening and entertaining, …

FOPs Update – 6th October
Thank you so, so much for all of the contributions given for Rev Cate's high tea on Monday. It was an amazing spread and both Cate and the school were delighted with the afternoon. The children seemed pretty happy too; mine told me afterwards they had each had 5 sandwiches and 5 cakes but because they had eaten them alternately they thought it was OK.
What do you spend our hard-earned money on?
We've been asked this question a few times this term already. We're creating a summary of our recent purchases for the school which we'll include in …

Yellingham Farm in September
This month is now a busy month as we carefully sort out our 2 pedigree flocks of sheep. We are keeping less Jacobs at the moment and this is only because of selective breeding. If we don’t produce lambs that meet the exacting standards of the Jacob sheep Society, then they go for meat. The quality of the wool, the markings, excellent legs, good horns are just a few of the things we need to concentrate on when selecting lambs to stay in the flock. Those that make the grade are then registered with the Society who produce excellent, informative …

Alan’s Nature Notes from September
Hello everyone,
Michael Down's barn owl chicks have fledged, so that is great news. Tim Hubbard tells me that he has had two little owl chicks in his garden which have also fledged---so, great news for our owl population.
Martin Hazelgrave has been lucky enough to see hobbies at Luton. These are small falcons, which dash about chasing dragon flies, and small birds too.
Andrew Renshaw has been good enough to send me a photo of a stoat, in his garden, which had just brutally murdered a rabbit. There was not much left of the rabbit.
In …
